கிபி1658 இல் போர்ச்சுகல் பேரரசிடமிருந்து பரவர் நாட்டை டச்சு கிழக்கிந்திய கம்பெனி கைப்பற்றியது. மணப்பாடு, ஆலந்தலை, வீரப்பாண்டியன் பட்டினம், புன்னைக்காயல், தூத்துக்குடி, வைப்பார், வேம்பார் ஆகிய ஏழு துறைமுக நகரங்களை ஒரு (Principality)சமஸ்தானமாக உருவாக்கினர்.

20 மயில் தொலைவில் வீரபாண்டியன் பட்டினத்தில் வாழ்ந்துவரும் ஜாதிதலைவமோர் என்னும் பெயருடைய பரவர்களின் பரம்பரை தலைவனும் மற்றும் போர்சுகீசியர்களின் ஆட்சியின்போது பரவர் நாடு தலைவராகவும் இருந்த டோம் ஹென்றி டி குரூஸ்(1646-1671) என்பவரை இந்த ஏழுகடற்றுறை சமஸ்தானத்தின் (Prince)ராஜாவாக நியமித்தனர்.

இந்த ஏழுகடற்றுறை சமஸ்தான இராஜாக்கள் தங்கள் ஆட்சிக்குட்பட்ட பகுதியில் எடுக்கப்படும் முத்துச்சிப்பிகளின் ஒரு பகுதியை தங்களுக்கென வைத்து கொண்டனர். இந்த ஏழுகடற்றுறை சமஸ்தான மக்கள் தங்கள் ஊரில் நான்கு நபரை தேர்ந்தெடுப்பர். தூத்துக்குடியில் இருக்கும் ஏழுகடற்றுறை சமஸ்தானத்தின் டச்சு தளபதி அதில் இருவரை தலைவராக தேர்ந்தெடுப்பார். தேர்ந்தெடுக்கப்பட்ட தலைவர்கள் டச்சு கிழக்கிந்திய கம்பெனிக்கு தங்கள் விசுவாசத்தை வாக்களித்தப்பின் ஒரு வருடம் பதவி வகிப்பர். மக்களின் குறை நிறைகளை இத்தலைவர்கள் தீர்த்து வைப்பர்.

குற்ற வழக்குகளை தூத்துக்குடியில் ஏழுகடற்றுறை சமஸ்தானத்தின் டச்சு தளபதி தலைமையில் 9 பேர் கொண்ட குழுவால் விசாரிக்கப்படும். டச்சு கிழக்கிந்திய கம்பெனி ஏழுகடற்றுறை சமஸ்தானத்தின் தலைநகரான தூத்துக்குடியில் ஒரு பொது துணி தொழிற்சாலையை நிறுவி பரவர் மக்களின் வாழ்வாதாரத்திற்கு தேவையான வழிகளை செய்து கொடுத்தனர். இதை பரவர்கள் ஆங்கிலேயர் ஆட்சியிலும் நன்றியுணர்வோடு  நினைவு கூறுகின்றனர்.

 

டச்சு கிழக்கிந்திய கம்பெனி வியாபாரம் செய்வதற்கு ஏழுகடற்றுறை சமஸ்தானத்தின் தலைநகரான தூத்துக்குடியில் நாணயச்சாலை அமைத்து (fanam)தங்கம் நாணயங்களை அச்சிட்டனர். டச்சு கிழக்கிந்திய கம்பெனியின் வர்த்தக ரீதியான வியாபாரம் அனைத்தும் ஏழுகடற்றுறை ராஜாக்கள் மூலமாகவே பரிவர்த்தனை செய்யபட்டது.

"Gold fanam, Dutch India (ca.1700-1784), Tuticorn mint. Degenrated Kali / crude Nagari inscriptions. Tuticorn mint. Superb condition, scarce, much scarcer than the common Cochin fanam. 8mm, 0.5 grams."

பாதிரியார் பீட்டர் மார்ட்டின் மதுரை ராஜ்யத்தில் காமநாயக்கன் பட்டியிலிருந்து கிபி 1700 ஆம் ஆண்டு ஜூன் 1 ஆம் தேதி பாதிரியார் லீ கோபியனுக்கு எழுதிய கடிதமொன்றில்....

கடல் வழியாக வருபவர்களுக்கு தூத்துக்குடி அழகான நகரமாகத் தெரிகிறது. தூத்துக்குடிக்கு அருகில் உள்ள இரண்டு தீவுகளில் வானுயர்ந்த பல கட்டிடங்களை காண்கிறேன் என்கிறார்.
